Abhijnan Roychowdhury (born 18 April 1970) is a well known bengali author from India. He is known for his works in science fiction thrillers for children and young adults and creating the popular character Anilikha(Bengali: অনিলিখা).[2] [3]

Early Life

Technocrat by profession, Abhijnan Roychowdhury was born in Kolkata in 1970. He started writing for children and young adults in 1994. Today he is one of the most popular and accomplished Bengali writers in the children and young adults segment[4]. Though most of his initial works were in the area of Science fiction[5], he subsequently wrote stories of all different genres[6] and had been equally admired for his ghost, supernatural, social and mystery stories. Known for interesting story plots, appealing details, fast-paced narratives, interesting story telling style and human touch, his short stories and novels quickly touch a chord with the readers. He created new readership through a different genre of science fiction thrillers.

Writing Career

Abhijnan is one of the most well-known Bengali science fiction writers today after Satyajit Roy, Premedra Mitra, Adrish Bardhan and Anish Deb. He spent most of his working life traveling extensively across the globe, which is frequently reflected in his writing, story line, and portrayal of the characters. His writing finds the child in the adult and the adult in the child and gives all of them the optimism for a better tomorrow. His magical stories inspire the young readers to imagine the impossible.

His first Science fiction novel published in 2009 was Sanket Rahasya (সংকেত রহস্য) from Patra Bharati[7], which involved protagonist ‘Anilikha’ in a multi continent based thriller. His other published popular works are Rahasya Jokhon Darwin (রহস্য যখন ডারউইন)[8], Rahasya Jokhon Rokte (রহস্য যখন রক্তে), When The mystery is all about yourself (রহস্য যখন নিজেকে নিয়ে), With Only 24 Days Left (মাঝে মাত্র চব্বিশ দিন), ‘রহস্য যখন সংখ্যায়’( When the mystery is in numbers), ‘রহস্য যখন সংকেতে’ ( When the mystery is in the symbols), ‘রহস্য যখন মাইক্রোস্কোপিক’,’ ক এবং কয়েকজন’, This World After 100 Years.

Abhijnan is a regular contributor to all the popular Bengali magazines. Many of his stories had been turned into popular audio plays[9][10][11]. He is the author of several novels and collections of short stories[12], most of them published in reputed Bengali Saradiya magazines like Kishorebharati[13], Suktara[14], Anandamela[15], Sandesh, Chira Sabuj Lekha.
