Legacies is an American drama television series created by Julie Plec that premiered on The CW on October 25, 2018, and is a spinoff of The Originals. The series stars Danielle Rose Russell, Aria Shahghasemi, Kaylee Bryant, Jenny Boyd, Quincy Fouse, Peyton Alex Smith, and Matt Davis.
On August 2, 2017, it was announced that The CW was in early talks about an untitled spinoff of The Originals.[7] On March 6, 2018, it was announced that Julie Plec was showrunner, with the series being a production of Warner Bros. Television.[8] On May 11, 2018, it was announced that the series was officially picked up by The CW, under the title of Legacies. Julie Plec additionally serves as executive producer and writer. Brett Matthews, Leslie Morgenstein, and Gina Girolamo serve as executive producers. CBS Television Studios, My So-Called Television, and Alloy Entertainment also serve in producing the series.[9][10] On June 20, 2018, it was announced that the series would premiere on October 25, 2018.[11][12] On October 8, 2018, it was announced that the series received an additional three scripts ahead of its premiere.[13] On November 8, 2018, it was announced that the series received an additional three episodes, bringing the first season to 16 episodes.[14][15] On January 31, 2019, it was announced that the series was renewed for a second season.[16][17] On June 17, 2019, it was announced that the season season will premiere on October 10, 2019.[18][19]
On March 6, 2018, it was announced that Matt Davis, Danielle Rose Russell, Aria Shahghasemi, Quincy Fouse, Jenny Boyd, and Kaylee Bryant were cast in the series.[8] On August 1, 2018, it was announced that Steven R. McQueen would appear in the third episode of the series.[20] It was also announced that Peyton Alex Smith was cast in the series.[21] On August 21, 2018, it was announced that Karen David would recur in the series.[22] On July 19, 2019, it was announced that Thomas Doherty will appear in the second season.[23] On July 29, 2019, it was announced that Alexis Denisof will recur in the second season.[24] On August 21, 2019, it was announced that Bianca Santos will recur in the second season.[25] On August 27, 2019, it was announced that Bianca Kajlich will recur in the second season. It was also announced that Leo Howard will appear in the second season.[26]
