Sometimes, when users are looking to create a new page they will use the argument "... nothing else like it" or similar. This page documents why each of these reasons can be both wrong and right in their respective rights.
"My company is the only one like it in the world..."
[edit]- True - Sometimes, a company just is the only one like it in the world. For example, how many pink unicorn rental companies have you heard of that hail from Akron, Ohio?
- But this is misleading. Just because it is the only one like it in the world does not make it automatically notable, nor suitable for an article.
- False - Just because they haven't heard of anything like it in the world does not mean that it doesn't exist.
- An example of this could be someone inventing something previously invented somewhere else in the world, or creating their own version of another company.
- Bottom line - If they say this, and it's verifiable, it may merit further looking. But someone claiming that a company is the only one like it in the world is not always speaking the full truth, nor does it automatically make the company notable.

"I'm the best at..."
[edit]- True - You may very well have won the highest level of international competition in the event you are trying to claim notability for. Like winning an Olympic gold. That'd really help.
- However, most likely, you're not. Even if you are, if it's an obscure sport/event, you may not be notable (yet).
- False - Just because your family and friends can't beat you does not mean you're the best. Sorry :)
- Bottom line - Being the best, if it's verifiable, and for a large enough event, can help with notability. But it's by no means a straight-forward claim to notability that means insta-article.

[edit]- .True - It may in fact be true that your company created whatever you are doing first, that's a great positive influence on your company, it indeed makes it notable!
- .However, you are probably not the first person to do such things and it may have been done before
- .False - Its a big world out there, 7+ billion people, you are not the first to attempt such feats.
- .Like Prabash being the first person to measure time using a water dripper
- .Bottom Line - Being the first, if its verifiable, and for a significant event makes you/your company a more notable figure. But it too is not an excuse to make this an article
