Crowdercref

Crowdercref, Cornish for 'great fiddler' (!) is a web handle used by a musicologist and folklorist specialising in topics associated with Cornwall. I am a music teacher and researcher living near Padstow in North Cornwall. I have close links with the Cornwall Association of Local Historians, the Cornish Studies Faculty at Tremough Campus, and the Campus Pre-1700 History Group. I have written a number of books on music in Cornwall and made several recordings. In recent years I have produced two folk operas on Cornish themes. I frequently perform on violin, concertina and voice, and lecture to Old Cornwall Societies, Local History Groups, and Music Societies.

Current Research The aim of my work is to provide a sound academic footing for Cornish vernacular arts. This is achieved by careful research, rigorous scholarship, academic peer group review, and open debate about findings with other researchers and musicians. Manuscripts are transcribed and published as an aid to both scholars and social musicians. Findings are collated and published in academic journals and in a progressively updated resource book.

Message Thank you for my welcome to this forum, onen hag oll. I have about a PhDs worth of material I'd like to progressively input into the Cornish Music page. To my mind this page is scrappy and incomplete, reflecting the specialisms of the good people who have contributed in the past. It needs considerable surgery to both structure and content. I'm happy to address this, progressively. But I'm recognise that my computer and wiki skills are minimal, so I'm very grateful for comment and criticism so that collectively we can make the page academically sound.
