Dowles is a former parish in the southeast corner of Shropshire, England. It lies close to Bewdley (Worcestershire).

Geography

Dowles lies annex to the Wyre Forest and is divided in two parts by the River Severn. The river forms part of both the eastern and western boundaries of the parish. The parish is crossed from north-west to south-east by a road from Bridgnorth to Bewdley, nowadays the B4194 (Dowles Road).

Through the parish flows Dowles Brook.

History

Old names for Dowles were: 'Dules' (13th century), 'Dowlyz' (16th century), 'Downes' (17th century).[1]

For administrative purposes the parish was transferred to Worcestershire in 1895.[1]
