Seiji Ozawa
(September 1, 1935 – February 6, 2024),
the first star conductor from Japan,
studied in Tanglewood from 1960
with Charles Munch
from the Boston Symphony Orchestra,
became artistic director there in 1970
and was the orchestra's music director
from 1973 for 29 years.
