Hi Halibutt - I usually dread seeing a comment come up on my talk page or a page I have edited as usually it is from someone objecting to my edits - so imagine my surprise on reading your (very welcome) comments.
I like to try to adopt a standard and style that is generic enough to meet all similar situations, yet can cope with the specific instances - so that once you have the hang of one table then you essentially have the ground-rules for all of them.
I don't have any program tools as such, just a lot of finding and replacing and re-ordering of text to a certain uniform format. Where possible I make use of Word macros to automate the process.
I do incorporate ideas from other wikifolk (such as Docu and SpiceMan) so cannot claim all the credit.
Thanks for your comments --JohnArmagh 11:05, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I want to use this image in Belarusian Wikipedia. I think it's good idea to move it to commons.wikimedia.org for sharing between 3 (or more in the future) Wikipedias.
And I have a question: Why did it use GFDL, may be PD is more appropriate license?

Halibutt, nice work on Sosabowski. But aren't their accounts that Sosabowski was a POW and escaped from the germans after the fall of Poland? I believe this is part of the Sosabowksi family website (Sosabowski.com).
Halibutt, thanks for your comments, I have made the changes regarding the Zyrardow POW camp and escape. BTW, my grandfather, Richard Tice, was an American volunteer with the 1st independent Polish Paratroopers under Sosabowski, and was killed in Driel Sept 21, 1944. I was in Arnhem recently for the 60th anniversary services, and saw Sosabowski's grandson Michael recreating the parachute drop in Driel.... Cheers, Paul
At Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (use English), there is currently a discussion about usage of chacters beyond the 26 of the pure Latin alphabet. Although the discussion and policy in question ought to be limited to page titles, it seems as if this distinction is not always made. It seems as if some Wikipedians have ideas very different from them discussed at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cities/Names issues. You, and other contributors, with experience from editing articles on geographical locations and persons that are spelled with other characters, might be interested to participate. --Johan Magnus 15:29, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Ten years ago, my family lived in Latin America, and I ended up in an "international" school that had a relatively high standard with regard to books and teachers' qualifications. International ment that books, and to a certain degree teachers, were imported from the Anglo-Saxon world. As a rule, it was new books — or at least recent prints. I have no photographic memory. I can not say for sure that the name on maps and books was "Weichsel". However, I've a good memory for sounds, and I remember of the class when we chanted the names of the larger rivers of "Western" Europe (Russia was for mysterious reasons deemed unimportant). Weichsel was the first of these rivers. If I hadn't red this debate, I would have continued to assume that Weixel (pronounced with an English dubble-u) was the English name, and Vístula the Spanish/Portugese.
In case you're curious: In my Finnish language World Atlas, the river is named "Veiksel". I've never went to school in Sweden, but five minutes ago, I checked with my dorm neighboor, in whos atlas from school the river is named as "Weichsel (Wiswa)".

Przetłumaczyłem Twój artykuł o Rafaelu del Riego z pl: na angielski, jako że zyskał dość duże poparcie w głosowaniu na m:Translation of the week. Zauważyłem jednak, że w Twoim artykule jego pełne nazwisko to Rafael del Riego y Flórez Valdes - dla takiego wyszukiwania Google pokazuje jedynie Twój artykuł, zaś najwięcej stron nazywa go Rafael del Riego y Núñez. Która wersja jest poprawna? Ausir 01:49, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...
using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. So far over 90% of people who have responded have done this.
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the ((DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual)) template (or ((MultiLicensePD)) for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
OR
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace ((DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual)) with ((MultiLicensePD)). If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. It's important to know, even if you choose to do anything so I don't keep asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk) 14:39, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

Looks good, however, the Protectorate of Bohemia could be the same color as Germany, as it really was under full German occupation. Germany and Axis allies could also maybe be Bluish-Gray in coloring. Romania and Slovakia could also use a city or two shown. Maybe you could also make a terrain overlay, showing topography, especially with Slovakia. Microdem is something you could take a look at [2] [3] .Otherwise, nice work. Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Oj! Sorry about the cabmen thing. I didn't realise you were talking about the horse-drawn variety, though I really should have considered the era in question. ;o) My dictionary first gives a cross-reference to a modern taxi driver, then mentions the horse-drawn ones a couple of lines down. In any case, I think it needs to be clarified -- "cab" is the standard word for "taxi" in most of the U.S., I believe, and it's certainly common slang in Australia and Britain, so the average ignoramus who comes along and reads the word "cabman" is probably going to make the same mistake I did. I just can't think of a succinct way of putting it... maybe a link to the cabriolet article? J.K. [[]] 06:49, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Radomil 11:23, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)
The expression "medical university" is an oxymoron. A "university" is an institution of learning that deals, potentially, with the entire "universe" (i.e., the totality) of knowledge. Can an institution of medical learning seriously make this claim?
Why not call such a medical institution a "medical school," as it is termed in the United States--where as a rule it is merely one of many graduate schools belonging to a university? Logologist 10:29, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Halibutt, what are you doing on Everyking's user page? Why include a German translation of an English user name? User:Everyking stated on his user page that he was American, so there is absolutely no reason to try to insist on adding this "fact" to his page, all the more as he already reverted it once and thus apparently doesn't think this bit should be there. Or would you want to have a translation of Halibutt into German ("Heilbutt") placed prominently on your user page? Please stop poking fun at or harassing a user who is already quite tense. Thank you. I'm really sorry about that - my computer seems to have become infected with some sort of spyware or trojan or something, but whenever I go to edit an article it inserts code to certain words or phrases that links to commercial vendors for those products. Several articles which I've edited in the past several hours had the same thing replaced into it, simply because the bug added the code to edits whenever I went to make changes, no matter how minor. I'm refraining from further editing until I can figure out what the problem is and how to beat it. Sincere apologies.
By the way, the edit I was going to try to make was to relink "withdrawal" to "withdrawal (military)", because there's already an article on withdrawal that focuses on the psychological term. If, after you revert my last, edit that link, I'd be grateful. Wally 04:04, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Because this word was published as supposedly "one of the most difficult ones to translate".
