Michel Gohou Doukrou, born December 10, 1963, in Djatégnoa, a village located in the outskirts of Gagnoa in Côte d'Ivoire, is an actor, director, producer and scriptwriter.
born December 10, 1963, to an Ivorian father from the Bété ethnic group (An ethnic group of the west of Côte d'Ivoire) and a burkinabé mother[1], both of them farmers, and the fourth of six children, Michel Gohou spent his childhood in Gagnoa. When he was a child, he was very timid and reserved at school and had a physical deformity since birth. To help him, Victor Yobo, his schoolmaster, included Gohou in the school's theater troupe. But, to his great surprise, during the New Year's holiday, following the performance, many people came to him to congratulate him. A new horizon full of hope had already began to open before him. Yet, some years afterward, the disorder which marred his appearance would hamper his enthusiasm and his education. He became paralyzed shortly thereafter, forcing him to halt his education at the CM2 level(cours moyen deuxième année) (the equivalent of the Fifth grade). His parents carried him everywhere to attempt to find a cure. It was in Burkina Faso that they met a traditional healer who succeeded, after three years, at healing his ailment[2][3].
Upon his return to the Côte d’Ivoire, he entered the troupe ’’Le Fromager de Gagnoa’’. And since, due to lack of money, he couldn't continue his education, he did various odd jobs to earn a living: managing a shop, and, at the same time, repairing electronics, etc. [4]
In 1985, he resolved to go on the hunt for funds to do the trade which he had chisen, that which can save his life from the mockery of people. With the support of his bigger brother Castel Bolou, he arrived in Abidjan. At that time, the troupe ‘’Fétiche Eburnéen’’ faisait ses répétitions au centre culturel[2].
In 1993, he mer Daniel Cuxac and joined the troupe of ‘’Guignols d’Abidjan’’[6].
Michel Gohou is married, and is the father of six children.
Today, he is one of the icons of francophone African cinema and is nicknamed "Le Louis de Funès africain"[10].
