Mike is an avid philatelist and has combined his interests in anatomy and philately under the persona "Dissecting Philately". He began collecting at age ten (1992) when he was introduced to the hobby by his mother. He returned to the hobby in 2017 after inheriting the postal collection of his wife's great-grandmother Edith Macia, whom was the postmaster for Tombstone Arizona from 1928-1936. His focus includes United States postage stamps (1847-1940), Great Britain postage stamps (1840-1940), covers (envelopes) of Colorado and Arizona, custom cover creation, philatelic genealogy, "anato-philately", and youth stamp collecting and engagement.
