Marti is a native Californian who grew up on her grandparents' dairy farm in northern San Luis Obispo county. After majoring in English literature, she worked for ten years helping farmers and ranchers improve the ecological value of agricultural lands. Working in a politically polarized region, she specialized in developing meaningful collaboration among diverse stakeholders. She became a fan of the Wikimedia Foundation when she discovered MediaWiki software, which she used extensively to support open communication, innovation and resource-sharing in her region. Marti has lived in New York City, London, Edinburgh, Seattle and for the last five years, San Francisco. In her free time, she enjoys backpacking, watching live theater, participating in book clubs and throwing the "pandalope" for her five-year-old chihuahua-miniature-greyhound-mix.

Marti joined the Wikimedia Foundation in September 2014 as the Project Coordinator for the Grantmaking Team.
