Bruhn NewTech A/S is a company developing lifesaving software solutions[1] to protect individuals against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats (CBRN)[2]. The company is founded with the sole purpose of increasing the number of people protected against airborne threats. Bruhn NewTech is based in Søborg, Denmark and has offices in Salisbury, England[3].

History

[edit]

The company originally started in 1989 but was founded as "Bruhn NewTech" in 1991 in Denmark. Bruhn NewTech got its breakthrough under the first Gulf War as a developer of software to calculate safe areas and the spread of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards (CBRN).

Bruhn NewTech´s software solutions were seamlessly integrated to sensors and command systems from 1995, which have been the product road map ever since[4].

In 2001, Bruhn NewTech was assigned a seat and became a member of NATO Information Management Panel. That same year the Danish software supplier delivered 25 CBRN-analysis systems to the defense alliance in NATO[5]

In the beginning of the 21st century the company's software and education were increasingly being demanded[6]. The Iraq War, which started in 2003, increased the fear of biological warfare[7] and resulted in American and British defense to seek advise from Bruhn NewTech[8]

The Bruhn NewTech software was in use during the 2004 Athens Olympics, providing safety against possible CBRN attacks[9].

Due to the technology's success at the Athens Olympics, Bruhn NewTech was also an active provider for the protection of athletes and spectators at the London Olympics in 2012 in close collaboration with the UK Police Force. Specifically in the sailing championships. Sensors were tactically placed so that any airborne threat would be intercepted and analysed in order to prevent a catastrophe.

Through 2015 and 2016, Bruhn NewTech helped to ensure the safe removal of chemical weapons in Syria during the ongoing civil war[10].

In the beginning of 2017, Kristoffer Basse invested in the company and became the majority shareholder and the chairman of the board[11]. Three other members of the board are CEO, Erik Juel Ellinghaus, CTO, Erik Bakke and Lars Bjørn Dupont Jensen[12].

In 2018, Bruhn NewTech kick started the "2020 lifesaving strategy" and new "SaaS" (software as a service) model with the purpose of securing the safety of as many people as possible globally by using different kinds of connected and online devices.

Bruhn NewTech was mentioned by the British newspaper The Independent as professional expert on the dangers of possible CBRN attacks in the public sphere[13]. In Denmark, Tv2[14] and Børsen[15] have published stories on how Bruhn NewTech wants to secure the public from CBRN agents.

Software and Services

[edit]

Bruhn NewTech supplies its software within three areas: Defense[16], Public safety and private sector,[17] and Humanitarian[18].

Defense

[edit]

Bruhn NewTechs's CBRN Information and Sensor Management software and hardware solutions are currently used in over 80% of NATO countries[19]. Years of CBRN domain experience makes Bruhn NewTech a global specialist on the development and delivery of life saving CBRNe Incident Management Decision & Support Tools. The company creates innovate technologies to combat conventional and asymmetric CBRNe threats and hazards and develops innovative strategies regarding how countries and governments can protect and prevent these attacks.[20]

Public safety and private sector

[edit]

After 25 years mainly focused on defense clients, Bruhn NewTech is now also focusing on public safety and the private sector, wanting to protect airports, train stations and sports and concert venues against CBRN attacks[21]. Bruhn NewTech's mission is to protect the public due to the growing threat of CBRN agents being used in possible terrorist attacks[22]. This means that event administrators and public venues' managers are able to use Bruhn NewTech's services and products to detect and eliminate threats rapidly[23].

As part of the transition from the defense to the public sector Bruhn NewTech has created "SafeZone". This concept is also part of the cooperation with Bruker which powers "CBRNet", a network of sensors that can detect CBRN agents[24].

Bruhn NewTech focuses on IoT and want devices from various hardware suppliers to be connected using their software. Taking advantage of IoT can foster Smart Cities with connected devices being able to alert the authorities more quickly and precisely, in order to potentially save more people from CBRN attacks[25].

Humanitarian

[edit]

As part of a CSR initiative, Bruhn NewTech permits all not-for-profit organisations to access their software solutions subscription-free. The company works to assist and sponsor the security and safety of all not-for-profit aid-workers, to help people in need without any political agenda or personal gain[26].
