About Me

I have worked most of my adult life as a photographer -- six years as the staff photographer at Northeastern University in Boston. Then freelance thereafter. Eight years of my freelance existence were spent in Nagoya, Japan. I was an early adopter of digital photography, having worked for Kodak at a unique place called the Center for Creative Imaging in Camden, Maine, from 1992 to 1993 (look it up on Wikipedia).

While in Japan I co-authored, with Japanese co-authors, three of the best-selling Photoshop books (coinciding with releases of versions 2.5, 3.0 and 4.0). These books led to digital photography consulting work for Epson Corporation and Toyota (I was instrumental in the introduction of a desktop, digital photo workflow into their car photography practices at their main plant outside of Nagoya). I co-authored one of the first books about digital photography geared toward the professional in 1995; called Essentials of Digital Photography, the english version became available in the States in 1997.

Starting in 1998 a series of projects led to the work that I currently am involved with. We conceptualized, pitched and got funded an innovative web documentary project called One World Journeys (http://www.oneworldjourneys.com) in 2000. That project has led to a number of commissioned web documentary projects that have been used to raise awareness and provide public education about environmental, conservation and health related topics.
