The World Security Forum 2008 is a major conference taking place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 21 - 22 October 2008, under the patronage of the UAE Minister of Interior, His Highness Lieutenant-General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It will be held at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE. During the conference, a panel of high-profile experts from international politics and business will discuss major security issues facing the world today and review the implications of such catastrophes on populations, businesses and markets. According to the conference website, speakers will include politicians, academics, heads of emergency response services and senior officials from global organisations such as the United Nations (UN), which is also one of the Forum’s official supporters. Among the conference topics to be addressed are acts of terrorism; earthquakes; fire and rescue; global warming; disease pandemics; disaster management, and humanitarian aid.
