Gameplay

The gameplay of the series' games, like most visual novels, requires little player interaction as most of the duration of the games is spent reading the text that appears in the lower portion of the screen, representing either dialogue between the various characters or the inner thoughts of the protagonist. Every so often, the player will come to a "decision point" where they are given the chance to choose from options that are displayed on the screen, typically two at a time. The time between these decision points is variable, but are typically many minutes apart. During these times, gameplay pauses until a choice is made that furthers the plot in a specific direction, depending on which choice the player makes. In order to view the complete story for a game, enough of the "true" choices must be made, choosing the "wrong" choice too many times results in the game being cut short and the player being returned to the main menu without the closing credits being displayed.
