Robert L. Pfaltzgraff, Jr. (1934-2023) was an American scholar of international political theory and security studies. He was the Shelby Cullom Davis Professor of International Security Studies at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, where he established the school's International Security Studies Program (ISSP). He also founded and served as president of the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis and advised several U.S. presidential administrations.

Education

Pfaltzgraff earned a Ph.D. in Political Science, an M.A. in International Relations, and an M.B.A. in International Business from the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated form Swarthmore College in 1956, earning a B.A. with Honors in Political Science, with minor fields in History and Spanish Literature.

Career

Pfaltzgraff was the founder and President of the Institute of Foreign Policy Analysis (IFPA), an independent, nonpartisan think tank with offices in Cambridge, MA and Washington, D.C. that specialized in national security, foreign policy, and defense planning issues. He co-founded^{[with whom?]} IFPA in 1976. He served on the Department of State's International Security Advisory Board, and as co-chairman of the Independent Working Group on Missile Defense.

Pfaltzgraff held visiting appointments as the George C. Marshall Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium; as professor at the National Defense College in Tokyo; and as honorary professor at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.^[3]
