Hello 75 - I saw your edit summary regarding CFB NCs and will answer it briefly here. You should understand, though, that the article's Talk page is the best place to pose such a question.

First, it is necessary to understand that there is no official championship in FBS that is endorsed by the NCAA - not even the Bowl Coalition, the BCS, or even the current playoff. NCAA literature has generally been emphatic in pointing this out. They have backed off a bit, likely because the current playoff may eventually be expanded to the point that it could become a recognized championship. In NCAA FCS, the nature of that playoff is endorsed by the NCAA as a national champion. The highly limited number of teams in the current FBS "playoff" and the unorthodox manner of selecting these teams are only two of the reasons that even the current playoff will not be "recognized" as "official" by the NCAA - as the "March Madness" basketball playoff that starts with 64+ teams is recognized as an official NCAA championship.

What you have in official NCAA documents is a mishmash of differing and sometimes conflicting information. The most comprehensive look at the question is provided by the NCAA here - [1] starting on p. 108. You will find that discussion remarkably similar to our article, starting as it does with a list of major selectors, including Colley and the 1945 OSU championship. On p. 110, you will find a list of poll champions going back to 1869 - and as with our article, many years listing more than one champion. There is a host of inconsistencies in that list, including the fact that after 1992 Colley is listed sometimes but not others. To make matters worse, the NCAA began a very few years ago to include this list - [2] - offered without comment, endorsement, or any notes whatsoever about how the list was determined.

So - what the Wikipedia article is is a treatment of all of the different ways and systems that a college FBS/Division 1 champ has been determined and by whom, since the first CFB game in 1869. It's a good and comprehensive look at a question that has and has had a host of answers - and to reiterate, no championship ever awarded by polls and organizations has received official sanction from the NCAA.
