Please desist[edit]

The legal threat you made here, however light-hearted, has been removed, and in future, please do not make any more, real or pretend. It is against this policy, is considered uncivil and should be avoided at all costs. Batmanand | Talk 21:36, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My concern about your username (BillGates)[edit]

Hello, BillGates, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

Bill Gates is the name of a well-known living or recently deceased person which is a violation of the username policy.

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! -- Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 19:54, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFC discussion of your username (BillGates)[edit]

Hello, BillGates, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! Wikipedia has a policy on what usernames editors can use. Unfortunately, concerns have been raised that your username may be incompatible with that policy. You can contribute to the discussion about it here. Alternatively, if you agree that your username may be problematic and are willing to change it, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name. Simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. -- Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 23:45, 12 March 2007 (UTC) Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 23:45, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
