April 2013[edit]

Hello, I'm Orange Suede Sofa. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Linear programming because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia.

Also, if you wish to contribute to Wikipedia in a non-promotional manner, you will need to change your username as your current name promotes a product. Please read our username policy for more information, including instructions on changing your username. Thank you. Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 14:36, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your e-mail; in the interest of transparency I will respond here and we can continue the discussion here. For individual commercial products, we have a threshold of product notability that is used to determine whether or not a product is notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia. In addition, our guideline regarding external links forbids links to "individual web pages that primarily exist to sell products or services". You noted that other solvers are listed on the pages in question; that is true. Some are notable, some are not commercial in nature, and some (like Gurobi) are indeed questionable and may be considered for deletion anyway.
