I am trying to expand the article on Kentucky governor Joseph Desha. I have found several sources that mention his service in conflicts with the Indians, starting when he was 15-year-old boy in Tennessee (approximately 1783) on through his formal service in the Northwest Indian War. I can find very little in the way of details, however. I know that two of his brothers were killed in Indian skirmishes, that he served under then-Lieutenant William Henry Harrison beginning in 1794 in "Mad" Anthony Wayne's campaign against the Indians, and that he participated in the Battle of Fallen Timbers, although I don't know in what capacity. It may be that he was of such low rank at this point in his career than there is nothing else notable about his service, but I wondered if you had run across his name in any of your studies of that period or if you knew of any good resources that would give additional details. Hello Linda, welcome to Wikipedia! Yes, learning Wikipedia can be daunting. A lot of trial and error is involved, to be sure.

I'm glad you are as interested in John Hanson as much as I am. Unfortunately, the source you used, Peter Michael's Remembering John Hanson, cannot be used as a source on Wikipedia because it is a self-published book. Per WP:SELFPUBLISH, such sources are not suitable for use on Wikipedia because these days anyone can get anything published, and we need to have a reasonable standard for determining what is reliable and what is not. Our guideline is called identifying reliable sources. For historical claims, we can only cite sources that have been "vetted by the scholarly community", which generally means "academic and peer-reviewed publications". Unless the scholarly community takes notice of Peter Michael's book, we can take no notice of it on Wikipedia. But don't hold your breath: his portrayal of Hanson's role in the Revolution has long been regarded by academic historians as fringe history and is unlikely to gain any traction with scholars.

Hi Kevin, been a long time since we've traded notes. Foolhardy as I am, I decided to try and get rid of the diacriticals on the Sto:lo and St'at'imc and Nuxalk categories, and the responses in the CfRs I started are all very consterning and miss the point entirely. I think you were around NorthAmNative/IPNA when we debated all these cat names and their import a long time ago; I remember you as a voice of reason in general; see the May 3 and May 4 CFD noticeboards for all those I launched. The inane responses are in at least one case coming from someone who just likes to argue, I think.....would appreciate it if you'd have a look. This all, or partly all, came about from User:Kwami's unilateral change of people and language articles to their most common English usage, and now people want to apply those to cat names even though they're unworkable as such; I'm p'd because these things were done by speedies, but take exhaustive CfRs and RMs to try to correct. The CfR titles vary but they include Squamish, Nuxalk, St'at'imc, Sto:lo and Cree categories.......and the wrong result may wind up serving as a precedent for more bad cat moves.....mistakes get done by speedy, it seems, their corrections get thrown into the mudpit where people who don't even work with the articles the cats are for start fielding new usages, and ignoring existence conventions (kinda spitefully, I might add) pontificate on what they think is right....without knowing the subject matter or understanding the terminology. I came back to write articles and try to make some existing problems fixed; and wind up spending whole days on time-consuming correcting procedures made my people using speedy changes that were ill-advised and undiscussed, and facing off with people who don't care what was discussed and IMO are just around CfDs to be contrary and kibbitz. I spent the past few days developing this page, which is the first one like this I have attempted. I tried a few other minor jobs earlier and one was quickly deleted as I grossly violated copyright; hopefully I have learned from that. Hi Kevin-

When you have a chance, could you take a look at this table. I decided not to make the face and reverse one image since some of the notes were at different horizontal/vertical orientation (that's why some of the face images appear smaller than they actually are). The bottom half (Continental) is just the template for a table. It's in rough form, really just a table and some loose images to be worked in, but I'm curious if you have any thoughts on this so far. Kevin, are you aware of any detailed resources which could help solidify the fact involving what bird species was Black Hawk named after? Since the Hawks natural range is much farther south of St. Laurence river and Northern Illinois locations where Sac tribes existed back then. Sparrow hawks are too small and not Black. And Black Sparrow hawks are only native to Africa. Its the American Crow species which fits description and natural range best, as today people in Midwest still(Like myself before research) mistakenly call Crows, Black Hawks or big black birds. While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year.
