November 2019[edit]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Poker. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. @NonsensicalSystem: Sorry, I'm new to Wikipedia contributions, and thought my edit was something of a grey area. The alternatives I could see were to leave the dead link in place (which points to a domain-for-sale page), remove the reference (leaving an uncited fact in the article), point to the legacy article (which was a definite promo page), point it to a GitHub repo for the program being cited Poker, or point to an article that explains the program in question. Which of these (or any alternatives) is preferential, so I don't make the same mistake twice? - CodeCommissions (talk) 13:07, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@CodeCommissions: I would suggest adding another reference which is not your own website, or adding a 'citation needed' template next to it if you can't. N0nsensical.system(err0r?) 14:23, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "CodeCommissions", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username, by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. N0Nsensical.systemtalk? 09:08, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

While I am an individual, "CodeCommissions" is indeed my personal blog. Therefore I have requested a name change. - CodeCommissions (talk) 13:07, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@CodeCommissions: Sorry, it looked like a company name. Unfortunately, 'CodeCommissions' still violates policy (website name). Perhaps use an interest you have as a basis of a new name? N0nsensical.system(err0r?) 14:23, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
