Hi, it is apparent that you may have a conflict of interest with respect to your edits to Simon Hatley. I've started a discussion here and I suggest that you review WP:COI. Many thanks for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, we just have to be certain you are doing things the right way.--Wehwalt (talk) 14:20, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Robert Greg here - don't know if this is the correct way to reply. If not - apologies. I hoped to make my interest clear and I don't want to be involved in this entry apart from putting it right. The problem is, according to Fowke, that a major assertion is wrong: Hatley did not sail with Dampier on on the St. George in 1702. A Voyage round the World of 1707 by William Funnell is the only detailed source document for this voyage and Funnell does not mention Hatley. Neither is Hatley mentioned in Dampier's Vindication nor in John Welbe's Answer to Captain Dampier's Vindication, two other shorter documents relating to the voyage. Peter Gerhard's Pirates of New Spain is excellent but it is wrong in relation to Hatley unfortunately. Hopefully someone out there will read Fowke's book in due course and can make a disinterested addition to this entry thereafter. Fowke's book includes many details of Hatley's place of birth and subsequent career with full citations. In the meantime, perhaps my correction can stand. Robert Greg (talk) 07:46, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
