The Arbitration Committee is currently looking to appoint new CheckUsers. To protect the integrity of the decision, we do not disclose internal details of the decision or the process. Those users who genuinely may feel they meet likely CheckUser criteria may wish to have their names considered.
Candidates must...
If you are interested in being considered for CheckUser access, please send an e-mail only to Deskana, with the subject "CheckUser application" containing only your Wikipedia account name, confirmation of interest, and confirmation that you meet (or will imminently meet) the above criteria. E-mail applications will be accepted until 18:00, 28 August 2008, seven days after the posting of this message. All people meeting the above criteria who e-mail Deskana will have their names forwarded to the Arbitration Committee mailing list impartially, and without comment.
Users who have applied already will be considered regardless, but may wish to e-mail Deskana and confirm their candidacy, if they have not had this confirmed before.
The community will be advised of our shortlist, and given an opportunity to submit, via e-mail, comments and impressions of an impartial and salient nature, and where necessary, users are expected to be prepared to discuss thoughtfully and carefully with Arbitrators. Please note, however, that this is one of the most serious matters within the remit of Arbitration Committee, and the final decision does therefore rest with the Arbitration Committee alone.
We hope that the community appreciates us trialling this step to make them more involved in the appointment of CheckUsers. Our decision to solicit input from the community is based solely upon your indications that you wished to be more involved, and we expect that those wishing to comment will do so carefully.

Applications are now closed, and every candidate that sent me an e-mail should have an e-mail confirming receipt of their applications in their e-mail inbox. Due to the volume of requests, all candidates should check their e-mail inboxes for my reply.
For the Arbitration Committee,

The following is the shortlist of candidates:
Comments and impressions of an impartial and salient nature may be submitted by email only to myself or any of the members of the Arbitration Committee for circulation amongst the other sitting arbitrators. As noted above, users submitting their views should be prepared to discuss those views thoughtfully and carefully with Arbitrators.
For the Arbitration Committee,

The Arbitration Committee has now reviewed all input submitted by users regarding the shortlisted candidates. One substantive issue was raised, on a point we had already considered carefully. Nonetheless it was re-checked from scratch again, and a further poll taken on that specific aspect and a related point. Effectively, this aside, all input was positive. Following this, a final recheck and concluding poll was held, and the candidates presented to the community on September 24 were formally endorsed.
Accordingly the Committee is pleased to announce that Avraham, Luna Santin, Nishkid64, and Rlevse are appointed as checkusers for the community. Each will receive more details over the next few days.
We would like to thank the users who indicated an interest, and about whom we sought feedback. A number of extremely credible users volunteered and were considered, and these will be borne in mind for future appointments. We also would like to thank the community for its responsible handling of the request for input - we received a very high "signal to noise ratio" on this, and it was helpful.
We would like to wish our new Checkusers good luck and congratulations, and once again thanks to all who participated in this process, whether by expressing an interest, or by providing thoughtful input.
For the Arbitration Committee.
