Delete Keep - In Google Scholar found a only a few references to run-of-mill agricultural research that lists plants from Alma Sugarcane Factory and Alma Plantation in Lakeland, Louisiana. Searches of JSTOR resulted in "no results found." Searches of Google Book resulted in few hits for minor agricultural research listing specimens from Alma Sugarcane Factory, Lakel and, Louisianaand a self-published book lacking any historical significance on geneology listing marriages and so forth in the late 1800s in Lakeland, Louisiana. The Internet Archive produced a number of hits related to school year books, food, Katrina, geneology, funding a coup in Grenada, and so forth, but nothing that seemingly would make Lakeland, Louisiana, either notable or significant. Alma, Louisiana and Rougon, Louisiana are separate articles. Interestingly, these are not GNIS imports, but appear to be genuine creations for what people understand to be actual hamlets. They are all in the GNIS, not that that amounts to anything. Uncle G (talk) 01:09, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I've double checked and the current physical address of the Alma plantation which is of very high historical significance is in Lakeland, Louisiana.   - Do you have a source (not the dodgy GNIS) that tells us the basics of what this place actually is? "unincorporated community" is a red flag these days, given Wikipedia:GNIS.     - Given that Lakeland has an assigned zip code and a post office I used that to pull up the boundary map. The last census of 70752 puts the population at 836 which I guess makes it a village.^[1]^[2] DavidDelaune (talk) 12:32, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

        See https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/topoview/viewer/#15/30.6013/-91.4000 the USGS site with access to all topo maps. The area has numerous houses and buildings - obviously sufficiently significant for an article as it exists and per the improved article is of interest.         I've been using it for 10 years or so. The site provide access to all current and historical topo maps which are far more detailed and useful than the current US Topo series which omits ~90% of the details and is rather useless for any detailed research. Comment - found some stuff on newspapers.com from the 1890s. Appears to have had an athletic club, a gun club, an ice factory, a post office, and a town hall in the 1890s, based on numerous passing mentions. Haven't found anything directly describing this place though. Described as a village in 1889. But I haven't been able to substantial. Hog Farm _Talk 05:52, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

After we've collectively had a go at it, I don't think that this is in the same league as the thousands of truly problematic "is an unincorporated community" articles, sourced to GNIS and placename books. Nor is it an "X is a rock in the middle of a lake/bunch of trees/empty field/a mystery house." problem, as other geographic articles have been over the years. Whilst we've constructed this by putting together a lot of small things from a lot of sources, I suggest that that's enough to give us an article with a significant amount of information when it is all added up.
