Withdrawn by nominator the consensus is that the Walker Cup passes category 1 in WP:NGOLF, but as I mentioned below in category 1 the examples are all Pro cups whereas the Walker Cup is amateur so I have a doubt about it being a "similar international competition". --Domdeparis (talk) 10:49, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Keep - Category 1 of WP:NGOLF is normally regarded as including the Walker Cup, thus enabling strong amateur golfers to qualify for inclusion. He played in the 2015 Walker Cup and is included in the List of American Walker Cup golfers. He was also in the 2014 Palmer Cup and 2015 Palmer Cup teams, which also have a List of American Arnold Palmer Cup golfers page where he appears. Nigej (talk) 18:58, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Keep as someone who doesn't work in this area I can't tell a Walker or Palmer Cup appearance does meet the type of events mentioned in NGOLF #1 but this amateur-turning-pro does meet GNG, with news coverage such as this and others. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:18, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comment not really sure if there is enough to prove GNG but if the consensus is that the Walker Cup passes the category 1 I'll withdraw my nomination but it would be good to maybe modify the NGOLF criteria to make it clearer what "similar international competition" means as the 3 mentioned are all part of a professional tour (PGA or LPGA) whereas the Walker cup is for amateurs.
