While browsing the Sauropterygia page at Paleofile.org, I noticed a genus name that had no type species epithet attached, Tapinosaurus Rabeck, 1925. Thereafter, I did a search for Tapinosaurus on Google Books and it turns out that Tapinosaurus first appears in a photo caption by Lennier (1887), who considered the dinocephalian therapsid Tapinocephalus a dinosaur. This typo was perpetuated by Rabeck (1925), who assigned sauropterygian remains from France to Tapinocephalus. Several authors (e.g. Steel 1970) included Tapinosaurus Rabeck 1925 in lists of dinosaur genera, unaware that Tapinosaurus was a misspelling of Tapinocephalus. Since Tapinosaurus is a typo for Tapinocephalus, this page should be deleted.

I disagree, the page should at most be redirected to the Tapinocephalus. And if it isn't then the Tapinosaurus page should have a the information on this nomen nudum name explained. It shouldnt be outright deleted.--Kevmin § 23:46, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
