Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Automatic/Supervised (will not edit article namespace anyway)

Programming language(s): C# using WikiFunctions.dll

Source code available: Not currently, will be made available in the future

Function overview: Loads lists of pages linked from the ((Orbital launches by year)) templates, grabs the assessment level and page text of each article and creates a brief summary - class, length, infobox used, etc.

Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate):

Edit period(s): Repeating edits will occur in blocks of 20 every other Saturday (in opposing weeks to the bot's primary task). On-demand edits will be made when I am editing - although if possible I will try to run most of them between 06:00 and 12:00 UTC.

Estimated number of pages affected: Repeating task: Approximately 60* spread over a six-week period. On-demand task: ~20 in the first week, typically no more than 2 or 3 a month thereafter. All pages edited will be in the operator's userspace

* - in theory there should be 57 templates at the moment, but they haven't all been created yet so the current count stands at 37. The total will also increase by one annually as a new template is created for the new year.

Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): N/A - all edits are in operator's userspace

Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): Yes

Function details: Requesting speedy, userspace-only, approval (see WT:BRFA) to automate a task which I've already been running as a semi-automated process (dumping data to a text file for manual entry). It maintains a list of articles linked from ((Orbital launches by year)) templates - by extension once that project is completed a full listing of all spacecraft - along with basic details such as article length, type of infobox present, if it is a redirect then where it redirects to, quality assessment, etc - fields can be added or removed as required as long as regex can be generated for them. This provides a single listing which can be used to identify pages which need attention in specific ways (e.g. because they are very short, haven't been assessed, lack infoboxes, etc). It also helps to maintain the OLBY templates since it can be used to identify where the templates don't link to the correct article so this can be rectified. The bot will maintain a separate page for each OLBY template, which will then be transcluded into a master list. All pages edited will be within the operator's userspace. --W. D. Graham 22:22, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
