Operator: BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs)

Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic, supervised

Programming Language(s): AutoWikiBrowser, Perl

Function Overview: 1) adding WikiProject tag ((GaelicGamesProject)) to article talk pages. 2) same for other projects if requested

Edit period(s): initially one run of about 500 articles. Probably more runs periodically at a later date

Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y

Function Details: Two functions, one specific and the other a generalisation of it:

  1. Using lists of articles prepared by members of WikiProject Gaelic Games, add the WikiProject tag ((GaelicGamesProject)) to the talk pages of those articles if not already present. This is a simplified version of the existing approved tasks performed for Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland (see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BHGbot) -- simpler because ((GaelicGamesProject)) is only a banner rather than an assessment template, so it takes no parameters. See initial discussion at User talk:BrownHairedGirl#Bot.
  2. Rather than having to seek approval here for performing this task for other projects I would like BRFA approval here to perform wikiproject tagging for any other project, provided that the job has been clearly described and achieved consensus on the project's talk page. I belive in documenting jobs thoroughly both when proposed and on completion (see User:BHGbot#Jobs and linked subpages for eeach job, e.g. User:BHGbot/Job0003), and will do the same for any further tasks. Note that BHGbot uses edit summaries which link to the job page.

Note that BHGbot was approved for use with AWB, but after the demise of my Windows PC I switched to using Perl with the Perlwikipedia framework on my Linux box. I was advised that I did not need a fresh BRFA request to do this (see Wikipedia talk:Bots/Requests for approval/Archive_4#Switch_from_AWB_to_Perlwikipedia), but it might be wise. I successfully completed a series of analysis jobs using Perlwikipedia, covering huge analysis of the extent of tagging, but didn't use it for the actiuall tagging (which by then was largely complete). Although I now have access again to a Windows PC and can use AWB, I find that Perl is better for some tasks (particularly those which involve analysis and reporting), and I would like the freedom to use both tools.

BHGbot does not currently appear to have bot authorisation for AWB, and I will need that to complete these tasks. Thanks.
