Operator: Erwin85 (talk)

Automatic or Manually Assisted: Unsupervised

Programming Language(s): python

Function Summary: Notify uploaders of images currently tagged with Template:NowCommons

Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): one time run

Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y

Function Details: It gets a list of images tagged with ((NowCommons)) from the Toolserver's database. There are approximately 700 of them. It will then get the target file name and uploader's name for each image and notify the uploader. It will edit each talk page only once regardless of the number of tagged images per user. Next I want to run a continuous version, see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Erwin85Bot 4.

Discussion[edit]

This bot is intended to get rid of the backlog for the continuous version. As this isn't necessary for the continuous bot to run I've made a separate request. Feel free to combine both requests if that's preferable. --Erwin85 (talk) 10:34, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Let's see what happens. – Quadell (talk) 17:50, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It just finished a trial of 60 images which turned out te be about 45 edits. It now checks that it has indeed something to report instead of reporting nothing. --Erwin85 (talk) 11:13, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I thought you would only be notifying the uploader if the file name had changed. Are you sure you want to notify the uploader if any image is moved to Commons, even if it can be accessed the same way? It seems to me that this would provide a lot of messages that might confuse newbies without giving them any useful information. – Quadell (talk) 13:30, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't really thought about this, but it makes sense to only do this if the file name has changed. I'll do this for both bots. --Erwin85 (talk) 09:14, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Great! Lets do another 50 this way. – Quadell (talk) 13:11, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done in two runs of 200 respectively 130 images with each about 30 edits. --Erwin85 (talk) 15:51, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 Approved. Looks good. – Quadell (talk) 13:56, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
