Operator: Ganeshk

Automatic or Manually Assisted: Manually assisted - I will set it up to start the run and monitor.

Programming Language(s): Will use AWB

Function Summary: To replace all occurances of ((GR|India)) with <ref>((GR|India))</ref>

Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): one time run

Edit rate requested: AWB on 2 second throttle; up to 15 edits per minute

Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y

Function Details: This request came out of a discussion I had with User:Jeepday about adding references to User:Ganeshbot articles. The bot created Indian town articles based on Indian Census of 2001. For adding a reference for demographics, it used the ((GR)) format per a suggestion at the bot approval stage. GR template does not create footnote reference on the article. It adds a link to the geo-references page. The geo-references page has since been moved to Wikipedia namespace and all the articles that link to it fail Wikipedia:ASR. My intention is to

  1. add ref tags to the GR reference in all India-related-articles using AWB. This will result in a footnote reference getting created in the reference section. (See sandbox example).
  2. make a change to GR template to link directly to the Indian Census page as shown in my sandbox.

I would like approval for this task as it will apply to thousands of Indian towns and cities that use ((GR)) template. This does not fully solve the problem. In articles where the references section is missing, the footnote reference will not show up. There are some proposals under discussion that would add a reference section to an article if there are refs tag but the reference section is missing. Please let me know if you have any questions. Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. – this tasks seems necessary; bot and bot operator have a good history. Note that this bot is not approved to add References sections where none exist. — madman bum and angel 14:16, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Made 50 trial edits with the bot. See Abhayapuri (diff) for an example. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 06:13, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. – I'm assuming this edit was simply made under the wrong account. — madman bum and angel 21:46, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
