Operator: Messedrocker

Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic

Programming Language(s): Python (pywikipedia)

Function Summary: I quote from its user page: "The function of the MessedRobot II is to raise attention of discussions that are taking place on the lesser-well known areas of Wikipedia. By tagging a discussion page with ((wider attention)), the MessedRobot II will heed and proceed to add that page to its list, which can be transcluded onto pages including the community portal, user pages, and possibly more!"

Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Runs every five minutes

Edit rate requested: One edit every five minutes

Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N

Function Details: Whenever the bot runs, it evaluates what pages have ((wider attention)) on them and then adds them to the list on ((wider attention list)). When the tag is removed from the page, the bot removes the page from its list. It's fairly simple.

Discussion[edit]

Can't you just have the template place each page in a category? --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 03:00, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The entire point of the bot is the bot-generated list -- a nice, organized list that can be transcluded onto just about any page. In my opinion, that is better at raising attention than some category. MessedRocker (talk) 03:34, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you posted to AN about this concept of ((wider attention)) two days ago, but it was archived without comment. Although this seems like a good idea, especially from how I've seen it used at Wikinews, are you confident that its' usage will enjoy the community's support?
Presuming it does, will it list them in chronological order on Template:Wider attention list, and will it add the date next to the link? Also, will the bot have a feature which could add an alert next to the listing on the Template:Wider attention list if the page ((wider attention)) is placed on hasn't been edited in x, to keep the list current and under control? I can't vouch for everyone who edits Wikipedia, but the people at Wikinews seem to enjoy and make good use out of the feature. And as far as I know, the pages are listed in order of being tagged. As for dating and alerts for stale pages, I'll bring that up with the developer. MessedRocker (talk) 09:46, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This bot looks good. I view it the same was as someone could view the table at rfa. You can chose to use it, or not. ~ Wikihermit 02:27, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At this point, the bot has made over 100 edits. It works just fine, it is used in many places, and it even has a home on the toolserver. Full-time bot? MessedRocker (talk) 08:03, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
