Huh? The title card is not discussed critically. It's not even discussed at all. How could this possibly pass WP:NFCC#8? Nothing in the article indicates why the reader's understanding of the article will be substantially lowered by not being shown an image of an insignificant title card. I uploaded File:Brandy Ray J family business print ad.jpg (series premiere print advertisement of Brandy & Ray J) to replace this image. But alas, someone else oppose replacement. To be honest, this isn't a screenshot, as the uploader claimed; if it were, exact source should have been provided. Instead, DVDs of this series are not out yet. How do you capture the title card and upload it to hard drive, now that VHS is becoming less popular, and that DVRs take over? Also, the rationale cites VH1 as a source rather than as an author. Either it is the banner from the defunct official website, or it must have originated from unknown website. Why choosing this legally disputed image over more legal print ad? Also, I'm sure that the print ad substantially identifies the TV series. George Ho (talk) 02:42, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • The print ad was published to print sources by VH1. As for the essay you cited, favoritism may not be substantial reason for deletion/keep, but this is an image, not an article. If it were a screenshot, I'm sure that the title card consisted of just a logo with generic background. Now that errors have been cleaned up, let's say that it is the banner from official website. The banner must have been used as a decoration for that website, and it was distributed as part of a website, not for promotion. I'm not sure how using the banner qualifies as fair use, but I'm unsure whether the copyright of the banner was infringed. The official website is down, so it may not matter much, unless VH1 gives a damn about some banner. The banner itself doesn't represent the nature of the reality series. The promo ad might due to Brandy Norwood and Ray J struggling to grab a mike from each other. Also, the parents at the back are part of a drape decoration when Ray J slides the drape with his foot. The promo ad gives readers an idea that a reality series may indicate a relationship between Brandy and Ray. The banner, on the other hand, could indicate a happy family, which would bore viewers. But, with the way that VH1 promoted on ads, I'm sure that Brandy and Ray J may have love/hate relationship (as siblings actually). George Ho (talk) 03:37, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • George, I really don't want to get into an excessively back and forth conversation that gets us nowhere and where nobody else has a chance to comment, as happened with another file that you unsuccessfully nominated. Let's give someone else a chance to comment this time. I will say though that your assertion that "The official website is down" is incorrect. It's still live and that's where the image can still be found. It's the first of a series that are used in the banner there.[1]

Doesn't seem to be sufficiently important for the article Youth incarceration in the United States. See WP:NFCC#8. Stefan2 (talk) 15:55, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Definitely fails WP:NFCC#8 in that a photo by a journalist does not add to the article, it is purely decorative. The section talks about the subject, but the words do better justice than any image could, especially one that is simply a headshot. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 17:17, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Stefan2, Тимофей: a lawyer representing Quantel Lotts emailed me a different image of him, from around the time he committed the crime for which he's now imprisoned. Do you have any recommendations as to how I can go about uploading it? The lawyer has written giving permission to use the file. Let me know! -Darouet (talk) 22:14, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Giving permission to use the file is not enough. The copyright holder would need to release the photo under a free license. The copyright holder is usually the person who took the photo. If the copyright holder wants to release the photo under a free license, that person should follow the steps at Wikipedia:DONATEIMAGE. Cheers -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 02:48, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately that's not feasible: Lotts' family is very poor and cannot be contacted (their addresses cannot even be found). I don't agree that the photo is decorative: the photo demonstrates the youth of the person incarcerated. It also suggests (through Lotts' expression for instance) that persons incarcerated are not necessarily the dangerous criminals they seem to have been in the moment of their crime, as children, many years before. When this photo came up for deletion previously, in the article on Quantel Lotts, there was no agreement that another could be acquired (Lotts is incarcerated for life), and no debate over whether the photograph would be important for the article. Now that the content has been moved to this article, with an entire section dedicated to Lotts, that section is clearly more comprehensible if readers can actually see the subject described. -Darouet (talk) 16:48, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free image is orphaned and was tagged as such,[2] but uploader is tring to force its retention by removing the orphan tag,[3][4] AussieLegend () 19:08, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

#File:BRafamily.PNG is only nominated because you uploaded this image and want to force it into the article. There's an RfC open at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television#Replacing title cards and logos with promo advertisements? addressing this very thing and so far there is no support for this type of image in the infobox. A title card or something like BRafamily.PNG is what should be in the article. As I explained elsewhere, I did not say "more substantial", I said BRafamily.PNG was "more than adequate". There was simply no need to upload another item of non-free content to replace an existing item of non-free content. All we try to do with these images is to identify the program. BRafamily.PNG does that. File:Brandy Ray J family business print ad.jpg provides nothing that BRafamily.PNG doesn't already provide. In fact it provides less. BRafamily.PNG gives us a reasonably good view of the four cast members, while Brandy Ray J family business print ad.jpg has two of them in the background, making them much harder to identify. BRafamily.PNG also uses only 30.8% of the screen real estate that the new file does. It's less overwhelming in the article than this one. --AussieLegend () 19:29, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This doesn't look like cover art but like a photo of a generic cassette with a sticker with some text on. The text on the sticker is ((PD-text)) and can be quoted as text in the article instead. The image also doesn't appear at the source web page, so the image violates WP:NFCC#10a. Stefan2 (talk) 19:58, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just uploaded a new image to comply with the source. I might have uploaded a wrong image from Google instead of from Encyclopaedia Metallum. Since the image is now a proper music art, I can cancel deletion proposal. PlanetStar 22:13, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The new image looks fine: that one looks like a standard cover image. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:20, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
