The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps. This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.
Advice to requesters
All requests:
Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place ((GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left)) to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Ourfair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with ((resolved)).
SVG requests:
Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.
Can someone please create SVG files for the other two finalists from the 2006 competition organised to establish a Flag for Derbyshire, namely "Design 2" and "Design 3". Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 01:07, 2 November 2023 (UTC) Bumping thread. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 00:52, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@QuickQuokka: Thank you, and sorry for the delay in responding. Well, all three designs originate from BBC Derby. According to the original website, the designer of the original concept was Leon Summers, with BBC Derby modifying his submission to create what was known as "Design 3". Which is also exactly what BBC Derby did with Martin Enright's submission, modifying it to create "Design 1" (which was of course chosen as Derbyshire's flag). Hence, I'd recommend giving the new file the same CR tag as "Design 1". Hope this helps. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 15:29, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Snow Lion Fenian:The description page of the file says it's released to the public domain by the author, and supposedly also the author (I don't really believe the uploader is the author), but there's no source to verify that unfortunately. QuickQuokka[talk • contribs] 16:25, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@QuickQuokka: Good point, and profuse apologies for the excessively long delay in getting back to you. Well, I certainly don't pretend to be an expert on CR licenses on Wikipedia. The impression I've gotten is that the uploader wanted to waive their rights to the file, but went about it the wrong way, resulting in using a license that creates a slight bit of confusion. After considering it all, I'd now recommend giving the new file the "Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported", in order to cover the same bases while making it clear that the uploader is not the original designer. Hope this helps. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 18:43, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Snow Lion Fenian: Now looking at it after having uploaded it, I see I accidentally used the wrong flower design. Should I fix this? QuickQuokka[talk • contribs] 10:04, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@QuickQuokka: Oh yes, if you think you can correct the flower, then don't let me stop you. But no pressure if you can't. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 14:34, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could someone please create a vectorized image of the four illustrations on pages 115–117 of this article? Please create it as a single image, with A in the top left, B in the top right, C in the bottom left, and D in the bottom right. Happy to talk through any of the issues. Thanks, --Usernameunique (talk) 02:43, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Request taken. However I'm unsure if what you're asking for violates the copyright of the source material (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). Wouldn't making a chart like that be considered a derivative? afever — 15:52, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much, afever. I don't think the image is under copyright. The 1955 images were published in a journal without a copyright notice (see here), so should be in the public domain by now. Also, the underlying image is a sketch of a design that's some 500 years old, and thus PD. (It's similar to this file, which is based on a 1972 sketch of a more than 1000-year-old design.) --Usernameunique (talk) 00:44, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see. Sorry, I'm still new to copyright and that sort of stuff on Wikipedia. I'll start working on that shortly. Thanks :) afever — 02:39, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Afever, no rush, but just wanted to check in and see if you've had any luck with this. Thanks, --Usernameunique (talk) 19:32, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about the delay, Usernameunique. Please let me know if there is anything you'd like changed or added. afever — 17:19, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
afever, thanks very much for this! These are really well done, and look great. Could you please make the following minor tweaks?
Top left: 1) Please remove where the line at the mouth crosses over the tongue. 2) Please remove the gray from the portion of the tongue which is inside the serpent's mouth. 3) Please put a small "A" at the bottom left of the image.
Top right: Please put a small "B" at the bottom left of the image.
Bottom left: Please add the three "plugs" (the things with diagonal lines). Please also put a small "C" at the bottom left of the images.
Bottom right: 1) Please add the three "plugs". 2) Please define the end of the serpent's tail (this may require making the surrounding gray area a little larger). 3) Please make the surrounding gray color (i.e., the part that was added in this image) a bit different (e.g., with dots) than the interior gray color (i.e., the color that's in all of the images). 4) Please put a small "D" at the bottom left of the image.
Once this is done I may also ask you to add the numbers that are in the original, but (if you're willing to bear with me) I'd like to first see how it looks without the numbers. Thanks again, --Usernameunique (talk) 19:28, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed flags of the West Riding of Yorkshire (2013)[edit]
The current flag of the WROY, which was "Design A" in the competition. The white rose can be used for all of the flags in this request. Additionally, the full rose-and-sun emblem can be used for "Design D" in particular.
Hi, is it possible to extract the vector logo of the Jordanian Football Association from the PDF file ? Thanks. أحمد 04 (talk) 23:20, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The image renders correctly as a PNG but when I try to open it in a browser it's just a black shape. HapHaxion(talk / contribs) 19:10, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, same is happening for me. Sm faysal (talk) 19:18, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Sm faysal did you extract the SVG file directly from that PDF, or did you convert the PNG file into an SVG? Regards. Riad Salih (talk) 18:32, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Open the PDF file you want convert in Inkscape (not Acrobat) by clicking File>Open..
Uncheck Embed images on the box that comes up and click OK
Wait a little while as Inkscape converts it
Click File>Save As..
Under Save as type:, choose "Plain SVG (*.svg)"
Click Save in the bottom right corner
Done! You now have an SVG file with the same name as the PDF, but with the .svg extension
Note 1: Try to avoid PDF files having huge pages. In that case just print the target page with Microsoft PDF printer or any other virtual PDF printers.
You can follow the instructions described here Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Resources/PDF conversion to SVG. Beside this you can search [youtube.com Youtube] for details tutorials. Hope this will help. Please feel free to ask anything you want to know. Sm faysal (talk) 03:34, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your guidance. I already have Inkscape installed, but I haven't used this method before. Typically, I would open the file with Photoshop and select "Images" instead of "Pages" to view all the images in the PDF. Then, I would extract the desired image and convert it to SVG. However, based on your suggestion, it seems like using Inkscape directly would be a better approach. Thank you for sharing. Riad Salih (talk) 03:38, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@أحمد 04 sorry, I couldn’t fiend any solution. @HapHaxion hi, do you have any solution? Sm faysal (talk) 15:40, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sm faysal I solved the problem by converting the image to pdf and then converting to svg again. Thanks. أحمد 04 (talk) 17:49, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would anyone be able to please create an SVG file of the flag of the island of Lihou (off the coast of Guernsey), adopted in 2019, as seen here? Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 15:16, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. The version of the flag of Milwaukee on Wikipedia is incorrect and needs a few corrections. In some details, it doesn't match the official design of the flag. A photograph of the official design is found in the article from the website of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel linked here https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/solutions/2020/02/06/milwaukee-common-council-ignites-flag-war-over-peoples-flag/4646492002/. In general, the official flag seems more detailed than the Wikipedia version, including in the outlines of Milwaukee buildings at the bottom at the flag, the Native American in the top-left of the gear and the symbol in the top-right in the gear. The flag in the bottom-left of the gear is in a square shape and is shown vertically hung from a visible string at the top of the flag. I would like to kindly request the correction of this flag to match the photograph and also to have the flag in the bottom-left of the gear uploaded as a separate file. Thanks in Advance! 109.78.178.71 (talk) 23:13, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please make house flag of Interlake Steamship Company. The middle stripe is a little wider than the others. The symbol on the flag is a simple funnel drawing, [1]. It's too simple to be covered by US copyright law. A contour map of Great Lakes is superimposed on the funnel.[2][3][4]Swiãtopôłk (talk) 18:19, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! Can someone please create a drawing or SVG I'm not sure what its called of this coat of arms above here? For example just like they turned this coat of arms [5] into this clean looking version [6]. Thank you! Arberian2444 (talk) 23:20, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Please upload the Al-Duhail SC Vector logo through The File and remove the white border. Thanks. أحمد 04 (talk) 16:07, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. This was probably an error during conversion of the text to paths. I've updated the file in accordance with the Foundation guidelines. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 01:12, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This logo is possible to be vectorized. However, none of the websites do that, Eg. Logopedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ayzkao (talk • contribs) 06:26, February 26, 2024 (UTC)

Not done Sorry, but as stated in "Advice to requesters" at the top of the page, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. This file is clearly marked as nonfree and eligible for copyright. If a vector version can be found online, that can be uploaded, but we cannot recreate one ("Do not re-draw or auto-trace non-free images; instead, seek out vector versions from official sources"). Would anyone please be able to create SVG files of the other four finalists from the competition that was held last year to create an official county flag for Berwickshire? They are: Design A, Design B, Design C and Design E. Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 16:09, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please vectorize the emblem of the Algerian Police. The central element is the ready national emblem [7]. I would also like to make two flags that contain this emblem.
Alternative flag of the National Police [11], the inscription at the top is the full name of Algeria, "الجمهورية الجزائرية الديمقراطية الشعبية" the inscription at the bottom is "المديرية العامة للأمن الوطني"
Hello. On the it.wiki's Graphics Lab we're working on converting to SVG and splitting religios habit/vestments sketches on Commons, so they can be used more easily and without scaling problems. Since it's a really long process, we would like to ask for your help taking some of that work.
More precisely, the steps are the following:
Creating an SVG version of the sketches and uploading it
Uploading the individual sketches on Commons
If it's possible, I would ask for coherence to make them on the style of those sketches: 1, 2, 3, since it's the one used by most of the sketches already present
Can someone please make a vectorization for the head badge for the Vietnam Self-Defence Militia which can be found here. The colorization can be synchronized with the above VPA insignia. Thank you!-- Hwi.padam 21:09, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hwi.padam: Done! I've tweaked the design elements slightly so they resemble the actual badge more closely. Let me know if you'd like an exact match to the JPG. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 22:50, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much @Fvasconcellos:!!! May you help doing the Flag of Vietnam Self-Defence Militia a.k.a. Ensign for the Vietnam Maritime Militia flottillas also? It can be seen here, featuring a 2D star and rice ears design. Hwi.padam 15:29, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hwi.padam: Sure. Let me know how this looks—I've used the darker gold of the actual flag rather than the bright yellow of the insignia, but it's a quick fix if you think the yellow is more appropriate. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 19:29, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that the emblem on the flag is spotted at the same color with the national flag's yellow star [12], so yes, I suggest it should be full yellow (#ff0) corresponding to the Flag of Vietnam. Besides that, the flag dimension should be 2:3 and the emblem size seem to be 2/3 to the width of the flag, since I notice the emblem's corner is not that close to the flag's edge in real life. There are different flags with different details spotted in different militia units since they use commercial contractors for the flag without any standardized regulation, so we will base everything on the Vietnamese flag. Thank you so much!!! Hwi.padam 21:19, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hwi.padam: Got it. I've changed the color, just need to get the proportion right before I upload: the flag in the photo is exactly 3:5, and the emblem is exactly half the width of the flag. May I use those dimensions or is 2:3 defined in law or something like that? OK, I've reuploaded with the flag and emblem in 2:3 ratio. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 21:38, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect, thank you so much!!! Hwi.padam 21:56, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fvasconcellos: Yes, the colors of the current copy are not the same as the original. The original copy contains a color gradient and the color of the map is white, not transparent. أحمد 04 (talk) 01:14, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please create a new file reflecting the flag from this photo, the elements are already ready on other flags. Name the new file "5 - Nationalist flags of Algeria in the 1960s.svg" that it matches the existing series. Thanks. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 1:00, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
Hi - I'm hoping someone could produce an illustration of the hat badge of the Czechoslovak Gendarmerie. This [13] is a representation from this non-RS website of the badge, the authenticity of which I can confirm from a textual description provided in citation 6 in the draft article. Note that the center device already exists in the Commons (see image, right). Many thanks, in advance-- Chetsford (talk) 05:55, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the page Commons:Wikipedia/2.0, in the section “SVG logos” I noticed that the Wikipedia logos in various languages are a bit different each others, like blurry puzzle logo or not perfectly centered words, or different fonts usage, and tons of other minimal differencies. My proposal is to suggest to create a new team that rebuild all Wikipedia logos following the rules of the page https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Legal:Wikimedia_trademarks//Word_mark_creation and takes care of guarantee uniformity.
This new team could be named "Wikipedia logo uniformity protection team".
It is a good proposal? -- 93.47.37.244 (talk) 16:54, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
