Where is the issue taking place?
... effect size page
Who's involved?
... me (Grant) and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Chris53516
What's going on?
... I have been heading a page from a stub on effect size. Someone (without login) has specified that an example I used is like one in a book. I came forward and said that I wrote it initially and it has been modified over the history of the page (and is most definitely not plagiarism). Someone else (Chris53516) has removed the text without discussion and continues to do so. This breaks the example I use later on and he keeps removing the text I reinstate and will not provide any new material himself. He has also made it an 'unverified' page etc. It's all written on the discussion page. I am at a bit of a loss what to do as he doesn't seem to want to work with me. He seems very aggressive and keeps spouting 'wikipedia law' (so to speak) at me. Basically, I don't know what to do other than just give-up on the page (which would be a shame as I specialise in this area).
What would you like to change about that?
... I'd prefer if he added text rather than just remove it. Basically, I've tried to work with him, but he seems unkeen to contribute - only to detract. In effect (excuse the pun) I'd like to make this page instructive to people rather than a source of insecurity.
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
... I'm not really sure what the procedures are, but my email address is gdevilly@swin.edu.au

Mediator response

I'd like to handle this on the article's talk page if possible, rather than through e-mail. I'll put something up there later today.

Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

Thank you Tsumetai. I just don't see any way out at the moment. Whatever I do I'm having wiki law quoted at me and don't really want to escalate things by doing the wrong thing. I've not had any trouble on wiki before and it seems I'm in a dispute with a 'pro' (so to speak). Grant 14:06, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
