This is a quick full list of the top 3,000 markup templates used in October. The list is sorted by page counts, as extracted from the massively formatted database report for English Wikipedia (run at 16:14, 08 November 2011):

Issues of usage and names[edit]

This list counts pages which used each template at least once in October 2011 (up to November 8), and there is no indication of how many times the template is used in each page. The massive-table report (linked above) contains the latest counts of usage statistics, but it might be extremely slow to display or search.

Below, notes have been added beside unusual templates, such as "middot template" or "exclamation point" to help search for templates named for punctuation marks.

The rank in the list does not necessarily indicate a widespread consensus to use, or name, each template, because some templates are introduced by a few editors into other heavily-used templates. Such embedded transclusions can cause widespread propagation as cascaded templates, without prior discussion to gain approval with other editors for such widespread use of some unusual templates.

The list below has been sorted in order of highest-to-lowest page counts. Because most edits on English Wikipedia are performed by hand, the relative usage rank of templates remains fairly similar in each month's report.
