• I doubt very much that this picture was published before the critical date. It appears from the article on Hatcher Hughes that he only became sufficiently well known in 1924. I have no evidence save for a feeling in my water because of the very weird self promotional circumstances that surround the now blocked user who posted it. The file's talk page is also relevant here. Over to wiser heads than mine. It may seem a small point, but the date is vital. If the date cannot be cited with certainty I feel we should move to delete it. My nomination is conditional upon that citation. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 17:32, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

• Keep. Most if not all of the photographs by Heinrich Hoffman were seized by the United States government after the war and placed in the public domain. Even if it is not PD, it should be self-evident that it can qualify for fair use all over Wikipedia, so please stop slapping unfree tags on files that will qualify as fair use.         • NARA, not LoC. Search pages are Arcweb or Records of the Office of Alien Property. I dont think this tag is confusing, it introduces with "This image from the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)", so if used on a file description page the file indeed must come from NARA. --Martin H.
