AWilliamson[edit]

AWilliamson has been a disruptive presence at Joan of Arc and related articles since 2004, employing multiple sockpuppets and anonymous IPs in an extensive campaign of POV-pushing. AWilliamson is likely Allen Williamson, the founder of the Historical Assocation (Academy) for Joan of Arc Studies, an organization of amateur scholars which seems to have been created to give a cloak of legitimacy to Williamson's self-publishing on Joan of Arc, and to allow him to insert his original research into Wikipedia articles. AWilliamson also edits on articles related to homosexuality, Catholicism, and the old testament. A recent discussion on WP:ANI (WP:ANI#Admin_plays_detective...what_next.3F) resulted in a community ban for AWilliamson and all puppet accounts; User:Voln was blocked as a result of that discussion.

User:CC80 is an active account that follows the pattern of previous AWilliamson socks, although he has largely avoided Joan of Arc--instead, he edits homosexuality-related articles such as Ex-gay, engages in revert wars, controversial page moves, etc. CC80 has already been blocked twice for 3RR violations.

User:EReference was created in October 2006. Most of this user's edits are on pages related to Dr. Seuss or on food-related userboxes, but s/he participated in the WP:ANI discussion, at a point when s/he had fewer than 150 edits. This editor seemed very knowledgable about AWilliamson's previous edits, Joan of Arc, and the activites of the Historical Association (Academy) for Joan of Arc Studies, and was the only user to defend AWilliamson in any substantive way. On a more subjective note, the style and tone of EReference's posts seemed very similar to those of Voln and older socks of AWilliamson.

In the past, AWilliamson has edited from AOL accounts, and this may make technical confirmation difficult. Nevertheless, any help in stamping out this long-term vandal is appreciated.

(More data on AWilliamson's editing habits is available at User_talk:Durova#Editor_X_.2F_Joan_of_Arc, Talk:Joan_of_Arc#Return_of_Wikipedia:Long_term_abuse.23Joan_of_Arc_vandal.3F, and User:Highest-Authority-on-Joan-of-Arc-Related-Scholarship/AWilliamson sock puppets.) --Akhilleus (talk) 07:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 Confirmed

All are socks of AWilliamson. Xandar (talk · contribs) is  Unlikely, though edit pattern may be conclusive enough for a match. Essjay (Talk) 00:32, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've blocked all the accounts except Xandar. Based on a comparison of the edit histories AWilliamson appears to be the original account; Xandar acted like an experienced user several months before Williamson registered or learned how to sign posts. Joan of Arc vandal, apparent wikistalking

User:Netsnipe noticed suspicious activity and suggested I report it here. From my talk page: "Just a warning that a vandal might be wikistalking you. Your request to Wikipedia talk:Long term abuse has now been removed twice without explanation..." followed by "Even this message was deleted." At Wikipedia talk:Long term abuse I had posted a link to User:Durova/Complex vandalism at Joan of Arc. The only other post by User:IdlP was to a FL candidate vote where I participated on 21 August. Also, User:CF18000 deleted my posts to talk pages at Wikiproject:Catholicism and Wikiproject:Atheism on 21 August.

If this is the same person then disruption to Joan of Arc has been ongoing since October 2004. Following are suspect accounts and IP addresses: Durova 14:40, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: I removed the list of AOL IP addresses since AOL users change IP addresses frequently so there's not much point in checking or blocking them. If named users also use AOL, there won't be much we can do to stop it at the source; however I'm listing the case since they might have used other ISPs or proxies that can be dealt with.
