This Copy Editing Project Blitz was a one-week-long effort of the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy editing; those carrying the ((copyedit)) tag or listed on the GOCE Requests page. It began on October 19, at 00:00 (UTC) and ended on October 25, at 23:59 (UTC).
Blitz participants can earn barnstar awards based on the number of articles—and the word counts of the articles—they copy edit. Awards will be given out once the blitz has finished.
The blitz is open to all; you don't have to be a member of the Guild of Copy Editors to participate. You must, however, be competent in your use of English grammar, spelling and punctuation. We strongly advise you to read Wikipedia's guide to basic copy editing before you begin working. If you're unsure about spelling, grammar or punctuation, consult the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Skilled use of English is especially important for articles listed on the Requests page.
Full instructions for participants, tips, help for new copy editors, useful tags, and details of the many barnstars available for the blitz can be found on the main blitz page. Please read this page carefully before you begin. To sign up, please use the form in the Signing up section below.
When you have chosen an article for copy editing and are ready to edit it, please add ((working)) (displays as Working) and sign your name and date (~~~~) next to the article's listing in the table below. Please mark an item as "working" only when you are immediately going to begin editing it, so that we can avoid articles being stuck in limbo.
When you are done copy-editing the article, please add ((y)) (displays as Y) and sign your name and date (~~~~) next to the article's listing below, then record it in your article list below.
EmpireY I forgot to add this mark when I signed the article as Complete in my list below. This article still needs work, including verification or clarification of some information stated as facts. ˘ | ˘ Hwajaetalk
New ImperialismY – removed tag; tagged section probably should be entirely rewritten for POV reasons, but little copy editing needed. Tdslk (talk) 04:34, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What Is History? Not done: unsuitable for c/e. Relies too heavily on primary source. C/e tag removed, tagged for cleanup. Baffle gab1978 (talk) 09:20, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
GOCE coordinators and other experienced Guild members will carry out random checks to ensure that copy edits are of a satisfactory standard. If you are willing to help with reviewing, please sign up below.
10% of each participant's copy edits from the backlog should be checked, and all copy edits from the Requests page should be reviewed, time permitting. Please choose articles at random and do not inspect your own copy edits. After checking articles, place a ((checked)) template after the article on the listing and sign your username with four tildes (~~~). If a rough consensus finds that a copy edit is not of an acceptable standard, the tag will be re-added and the the word count of the reviewed article will be deducted from the editor's total. The reviewer may give advice on how the edit could have been improved without penalizing the editor. Please raise any questions on the Coordinators' talk page.
CompletedMe? (EP) (677) - I'm counting the whole article's word count rather than just the tagged section because virtually the whole thing needed copyediting. There were a number of places where I wasn't completely sure what the intended message of the text was, so I had to draw a few guesses, but the article is readable now, so any inaccuracies can be easily corrected by someone more familiar with the subject. Y—Nice work. Baffle gab1978 (talk) 20:56, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
CompletedThe Lovestory LP (90) - I'm not sure whether the periods in some of the album titles mentioned in the text are actually part of the titles or not, so I've left those until further notice.
CompletedEmpire (3542) - This is my first blitz edit and I was somewhat unsure how extensively to edit the text. There were some instances in which correcting the text requires researching the accuracy of statements in the article. I added several questions/comments to the Talk page of this article. Additional hyperlinks to related Wikipedia articles remain to be done, and I didn't have time to review the cited references, but additional citations would be useful. ˘ | ˘ Hwajaetalk 00:30, 26 October 2014 (UTC) – Oh, and I realize I finished too late for the official blitz deadline, but I wanted to complete this. ˘ | ˘ Hwajaetalk 00:47, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
