This is a writing/communication course for upper-level biology majors. The course exposes them to writing for diverse audiences, and focuses on adjusting their style/language based on the audience. They work in groups on a Wikipedia article, and they can choose to either create an entirely new page (often about a species that doesn't yet have it's own Wikipedia page), or to substantially revise an article that's a stub article or rated as needing improvement.
This week, everyone should have a Wikipedia account.
Welcome to your Wikipedia assignment's course timeline. This page guides you through the steps you'll need to complete for your Wikipedia assignment, with links to training modules and your classmates' work spaces.
Your course has been assigned a Wikipedia Expert. You can reach them through the Get Help button at the top of this page.
Resources:
Now that you have created an account and joined this course page by using the enrollment link your instructor sent you, start completing the background material to understand Wikipedia. (Because of Wikipedia's technical restraints, you may receive a message that you cannot create an account. To resolve this, please try again off campus or the next day.)
You should understand the policies that are in place for Wikipedia from the introductory modules. Now learn more about the tools you can use. Also, review the training on plagiarism.
Do NOT do the optional exercise and do NOT fill in the entire form. You will do this process to find three Wikipedia articles and save Evaluate an Article Templates in your sandbox for each. You need to find a C-class article of your choice, an article that needs a citation of your choice, and pick one article from the Articles->Available Articles that you wish to edit (these are Stubs).
When you are finished, post links to your articles in a thread of the Wiki Topics discussion on BBLearn (add to a thread if it is the same topic).
Follow this link to get the information we will discuss in class (not as a BBLearn Discussion)

Resource: Editing Wikipedia, pages 7–9
Everyone has completed the background training for their topic.
Continue refining your page as a group. You may want to consider adding other features.
Every student has finished reviewing their assigned articles, making sure that every article has been reviewed.
You probably have some feedback from other students and possibly other Wikipedians. Consider their suggestions, decide whether it makes your work more accurate and complete, and edit your draft to make those changes.
Resources:
Continue to revisit your text and refine your work. You may do more research and find missing information; rewrite the lead section to represent all major points; reorganize the text to communicate the information better; or add images and other media.
Continue to expand and improve your work, and format your article to match Wikipedia's tone and standards. Remember to contact your Wikipedia Expert at any time if you need further help!
It's the final week to develop your article.
Everyone should have finished all of the work they'll do on Wikipedia, and be ready for grading.
