Willie Joshua Montague (born December 12, 1987) is an American pastor, motivational speaker and political candidate.[2] A member of the Republican Party, he unsuccessfully sought its nomination for the United States House of Representatives in Florida's 10th congressional district in 2020 and 2022. He is seeking the party's nomination once more in the 2024 election.[3][4]

Early life and education

Montague hails from Oklahoma, and graduated from Kenneth E. Hagin's Rhema Bible College in Broken Arrow. He earned an honorary doctorate degree from the Bible institute Rehoboth International Bible College in Raleigh, North Carolina before moving to Orlando, Florida, in pursuit of a career in Christian ministry, in 2014.[5] By 2021, he was attending Strayer University in Orlando.

Career

Montague founded the mentorship program House of Timothy in 2009, which mentors African American preteens and teenagers aged 13 to 17.[6] He registered to vote in 2015, and ran his first political campaign for the Republican Party nomination for the United States Congress in 2020, for Florida's 10th Congressional District. He received 11,498 votes in the primary, 9,986 shy of eventual nominee Vennia Francois, who herself lost to Democratic incumbent Val Demings in the general election.
