Loviisa (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈloviːsa]; Swadish: Lovisa) is a municipality an toun o 15,597 inhabitants (31 Januar 2011)[2] on the soothren coast o Finland. Aboot 43 per cent o the population is Swadish-speakin.[6]
The municipality covers an aurie o 1,751.49 square kilometres (676.25 sq mi) o which 931.92 km2 (359.82 sq mi) is watter.[1] The population densitie is 19.03 inhabitants per square kilometre (49.3 /sq mi).
The neighboring municipalities o Liljendal, Pernå an Ruotsinpyhtää wur consolidatit wi Loviisa on 1 Januar 2010.
Loviisa wis foondit in 1745, as a border fortress against Roushie. Maist o the fortifications hae been preserved. It is named efter Lovisa Ulrika, the Swadish Queen consort o Adolf Frederick o Swaden.
Loviisa is the steid o ane o Finland's twa nuclear pouer stations, the ither being at Olkiluoto. The Lovisa nuclear pouer plant consists o twa VVER units, each o 488 MWe.
