Rostov (Roushie: Ростов; Old Norse: Rostofa) is a toun in Yaroslavl Oblast, Roushie, ane o the auldest in the kintra an a tourist centre o the Gowden Ring. It is locatit on the shores o Lake Nero, 202 kilometer (126 mi) northeast o Moscow. Population: 31,792 (2010 Census);[2] 34,141 (2002 Census);[6] 35,707 (1989 Census).[7]
While the offeecial name o the toun is Rostov, it is better kent tae Roushies as Rostov Veliky, i. e. Rostov the Great. This name is uised tae distinguish it frae Rostov-on-Don, which is nou a hintle lairger ceety. Rostov Yaroslavsky is the offeecial name o its railwey station (due tae its poseetion in Yaroslavl Oblast); the toun itsel is hardly iver cried bi that name.
