Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph (born 22 October 1992), known professionally by his stage name 21 Savage , is a rapper, songwriter and record producer. He is based in London , in the United Kingdom .[1] [2] [3]
21 Savage started his career in 2013. He has released three mixtapes , three extended plays and three solo studio albums . He released his first album, Issa Album , in 2017. The album's lead single was "Bank Account ". He was featured on Post Malone 's single "Rockstar " in 2017. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The song was also nominated for two Grammy Awards . His second album, I Am > I Was , was released in 2018.[4] His third album, American Dream , was released in 2024.[5]
On his 21st birthday , 21 Savage was shot six times by three assassins, but survived. His friend, Johnny, died in the shooting. This is the meaning of his stage name "21 Savage".[6]
21 Savage was born in Plaistow, Newham , in London , England and grew up in the United States, but never became a citizen nor permanent resident . He was expelled from middle school for bringing a gun. He was involved in multiple robberies . In February 2019, he was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).[7] [8] Officials said that he overstayed his visa illegally when it ended in July 2006.[9] [10]
