On 6 January 2024, the USS Laboon, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, was attacked in the southern Red Sea by an unmanned aerial vehicle launched by Houthi forces.[2][3][1] The USS Laboon shot down the suicide drone at approximately 9:30 am (Arabia Standard Time) in what the United States Navy described was “self defense”.[2][1][4] No damage or injuries were reported from the incident.[5][6]
The Houthi movement launched another attack on the Laboon eight days later.
