The arrondissement of Dijon is an arrondissement of France, in the Côte-d'Or department, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its capital, and the Prefecture of the department, is the city of Dijon.
Dijon was one the arrondissement of Côte-d'Or when the arrondissements were created on 17 February 1800.[2]
It is in the northeast of the department and has an area of 3,049 km2 (1,177 sq mi).[3] It is the arrondissement of the Côte-d'Or department where more people lives, with 373,574 inhabitants and a density of 122.5 inhabitants/km².[4]
The arrondissement of Dijon is bordered to the north by the Haute-Marne department, to the northeast by the Haute-Saône department, to the southeast by the Jura department, to the south by the arrondissement of Beaune and to the west by the arrondissement of Montbard.
After the reorganisation of the cantons in France,[5] cantons are not subdivisions of the arrondissements so they could have communes that belong to different arrondissements.
In the arrondissement of Dijon, there is only one canton where not all its "communes" are in the arrondissement: Nuits-Saint-Georges. The following table shows the distribution of the "communes" in the cantons and arrondissements:
