Columbus is a city in Lowndes County Mississippi. It is also the county seat of Lowndes County.[1] The population was 24,084 at the 2020 census.[2] The explorer Hernando de Soto. spent the winter of 1540–41 with the Chickasaw tribe camped near what is now the city of Columbus.[3]
