The location of Stratford-upon-Avon Stratford-upon-Avon in 2004 Stratford-upon-Avon is a town in England . It is famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare . It lies on the River Avon , 22 miles (35 km ) south east of Birmingham and 8 miles (13 km) south west of the county town, Warwick.
Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon: Shakespeare's Memorial Theatre opened in 1879 and burned down in 1926. It was replaced by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre
