Evermore (stylized in all lowercase) is the ninth studio album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Released December 11, 2020, five months after Swift's album Folklore, Evermore is a "sister record" to its predecessor, both being surprise albums announced on social media hours before release. Evermore features guest appearances from American bands Bon Iver, Haim, and the National. The lead single "Willow" premiered with a self-directed music video coinciding with the album's release.

Background and promotion

On December 10, 2020, Swift announced Evermore in a series of social media posts.[3][4] She also released the album track listing, which revealed collaborations with Haim, the National and Bon Iver.[5]

Conception

Swift stated on Instagram that following the release of Folklore, "we just couldn’t stop writing songs" and described the temptation to continue as feeling "like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in". Swift also stated that she has "felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning" as this was not her typical "one off era".[6] Exploring the themes related to Folklore and this succeeding album, she writes “I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives." Referring to lockdown regulations through Christmas in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Swift wrote that "I also know this holiday season will be a lonely one for most of us and if there are any of you out there who turn to music to cope with missing loved ones the way I do, this is for you."

Swift and Joe Alwyn (under pseudonym "William Bowery") co-wrote three of the album's tracks, including "champagne problems".[2]

Singles

"Willow" was released as the lead single alongside the album on December 11, 2020.[7] The song was accompanied with a music video directed by Swift.[8]
