Antoine de Chézy
I wanted to note that all of my edits were copied from my sandbox: User:Katiejill127/Chézy_formula, please go all the way to the bottom as I sandboxed two articles there, starting with the Chézy formula and followed by Antoine de Chézy. This biographical stub was expanded by about twice in length and sources since January 2022 by me. Thanks and hope I helped!Tag: Visual edit

Chézy formula
I took something I liked from the original author, about how both formulas are used today, and expanded it into a full section. There are aspects to the formula method that are confusing, such as its applicability for pipe flow and relation to other formulas, so I gave a first pass at discussing them. I'm sure those who follow will continue to improve this area. I also liked the "Authors of flow formulas" bit on the Manning Eq. page and thought that could be fun to watch that grow here as well.Tag: Visual edit

Chézy formula
I wanted to grow the original article's section on the relationship between the Chézy and Manning formulas, as Manning's adoption of the Chézy formula is very clear. As the original author wrote, there is a method of using the Manning co-efficient to calculate the Chézy coefficient, but the relationship is greater than that. I wanted to document the numerous flow formulas Chézy inspired, and its relationship with the Manning formula.Tag: Visual edit

Chézy formula
I added an article section which explores Chézy's similarity parameter. In an effort to neither plagiarize nor introduce content that's too academic and stuffy, I thought exploring the relationships which drive the formula might be more helpful for fostering community understanding than deriving the whole formula. I referenced two textbooks where a full derivation could be found. I included a free-body diagram of uniform flow, self-drawn. If better artists follow, feel free to replace the art!Tag: Visual edit

Chézy formula
I made some major updates, preserving as much of the original authorship as possible while providing additional citations and more closely representing the formula as it's presented across several of my engineering textbooks. I really appreciated the original author's work. I made the formula its own section with a header. I added some more context to the formula and formula terms. And I explained how some parameters are indirectly incorporated into the formula.Tag: Visual edit

Chézy formula
I added a lead to this article which introduces the formula, how and why it was developed, and its influence and current relevancy in fields which research open-channel flow.Tags: nowiki addedVisual edit

→References: I made a few small changes in response to the peer review. I realize that by including the draft for *two* wikipedia articles in one sandbox that they would share the same reference section. Please note that even if the sources are shared between the two, that I'll be able to better list which sources go with which article when they're posted separately.Tag: Visual edit

I drafted major finalizing changes to the Chézy formula article. It is now much more complete and I look forward to improving the stub article. I explored the formula derivation and tried to explain it accessibly here, while still using formula syntax and a self-drawn free-body diagram of the balance of forces in uniform open channel flow. I expanded on the work done by contemporaries after Chézy and how this work is still used. I also continued to improve the article on Antoine de Chézy.Tag: Visual edit

→Lead [my draft]:: I made a lot of changes. I have a proper outline for how I plan to improve the Chezy Formula article, now much farther along than an outline but this is my drafting process. I added (painful) LaTex and strong sources, an exploration but not full derivation of the formula (don't want to accidentally plagiarize?), and better description of the formula relationship itself, improvements by Manning, and how they're currently used. Will continue to draft. Status is now outline+.Tag: Visual edit
