Severely outdated article

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia volunteers!

I'm writing to you on behalf of the National Library of Latvia, which hosts the Latvian ISBN/ISMN agency. The International ISBN agency has informed us of the fact that an entry has been created for our National ISBN branch here on Wikipedia. We have reviewed the article and concluded that the information here is severely outdated and might potentially mislead those looking for factual information about our Agency's work.

The article also includes data on the publishing industry in Latvia, but the latest data referred to are from year 2006, which is hardly satisfactory. If such data were to be found on Wikipedia, in our opinion they should be presented in a separate article especially given that the use of ISBNs and ISMNs is not mandatory in Latvia and the statistics are not made based on the data our National ISBN/ISMN branch has.

Therefore, we propose that the article should be deleted or edited, shifting the focus onto the publishing industry instead of the ISBN/ISMN agency.

In case you don't agree that the article should be deleted, perhaps it could be updated with the current information, which we publish on our homepage: https://lnb.lv/services/izdevejiem/#isbn_gramatam (information about ISBN services); https://lnb.lv/services/izdevejiem/#izdevejdarbibas_statistika (information about the publishing industry; the official statistics on the publishing industry collected by us is also published on the Official statistics portal https://stat.gov.lv/ (see datasets BIG010, BIG020, BIG030, BIG031, BIG040 and BIG050)).

Thank you in advance for your help!

Not done: outdated information is a problem, but articles are never deleted if they can be fixed. I will add a template message to the article. HansVonStuttgart (talk) 08:01, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
