It is a picture taken by me of part of a building and public sidewalk taken on a specific day that shows part of a mural now in ruins and partially obscured by a fence, that is talked about in an article about an airline that no longer exists. The men who put up the tiles may not even be alive today. How do you expect me to respond? When the airlines was running the mural played a role as an ad for transportation service and a landmark in the city. The picture illustrates what the article talks about, that is all. I would suggest adding more information in the article but not deleting the image. What do you want me to do? Arsdelicata (talk) 23:23, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably a work for hire, so the copyright holder is presumably the mural designer's employer, and so you need to obtain permission from the employer. If installed before 1978, the copyright expires 95 years after installation. If installed in 1978 or later, the copyright expires 120 years after creation of the mural. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:23, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Logos usually fall under trademark, but unless someone buys the rights to it, (since the company is gone) why would you remove an image that illustrates a location and part of aviation history. The image does not take credit for having created the mural, sidewalk, sky or anything in it. It does not abuse any authors, but rather captures a scene at one moment in time in order to illustrate the topic of an article. Arsdelicata (talk) 02:08, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Trans Caribbean Airways started in 1945 and disappeared in 1971. Where do you go to find out what year a mural was placed on a wall? Arsdelicata (talk) 05:53, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If the company disappeared in 1971, then the mural was most likely installed before 1978. Can you find a copyright notice somewhere on the mural? If not, the mural is in the public domain. And who paints a copyright notice on a mural? I've looked at the full-size image and can't find any copyright notice, so I would guess that there is no notice. It could have been placed on the back side of the mural, but that side probably belonged to the airline's neighbour who wouldn't have wanted a copyright notice on its side of the mural.
If the mural was installed before 1964, the copyright would have to be renewed 28 years after the mural was installed, which sounds unlikely considering that the company existed for less than 28 years: the renewal would have had to be made after the company went defunct. Murals are not the kind of things you'd expect to be renewals for anyway. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:04, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
